How To Hold a Disaster Drill

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey held a disaster drill this morning, which is the largest mobilization of its kind since the 9/11 attacks. They had been warning residents and businesses and commuters for the past couple of weeks that they would be doing so, so as not to alarm locals when they saw hundreds of vehicles rushing to the World Trade Center's PATH station.

The mobilization included the FDNY, NYPD, Port Authority and other state and local law enforcement and was based on a scenario that a PATH train was bombed between Hoboken and New York City's World Trade Center station.

I'm all too familiar with those tracks as I used them regularly prior to 9/11 and since work relocated to just a few blocks from Ground Zero. I, along with tens of thousands of other commuters, benefit greatly from this kind of preparation and joint training since the lessons learned from these disaster drills can translate into saving lives.
