I wonder how she might approach the subject. Yesterday's convention session included ripostes from Fred Thompson and other GOPers attacking those who are attacking Gov. Palin, particularly the members of the Obama campaign who continually refer to Gov. Palin as the Mayor from Wasilla rather than the sitting governor of Alaska.
There are several ways she could approach the smears by the Democrats. She could ignore the issue altogether, taking the high road, or she could pounce. I'm thinking that she's going to pounce, not only to burnish her credentials before the Party faithful, but to show that she can take punches and dish them out as well. As such, this is how I would frame the argument for Gov. Palin in tonight's speech.
It's my understanding there are those who would use the politics of personal destruction to attack my family. These people, and more importantly, the American public, knows who they are and what they represent. They don't represent what's good about America and how we can come together to make a great nation better still. I forgive them, but will not forget.UPDATE:
The Obama campaign would like to belittle my service to the public as Mayor of Wasilla, to say nothing of my proud service to great state of Alaska as its governor for the past two years. Big mistake. There are no more generous and caring people anywhere I've met. Democrats would love to frame my experience simply by my service to the people of Wasilla. That's nice. Let me know when Sen. Obama or Sen. Biden were elected mayor. Let me know when they were elected governor. If that's part of their CV, let me know.
Washington Post provides some topics for discussion that might come up in her speech. Allah at Hot Air weighs in as well on what Time says will be a speech that speaks to her ability to crack the old-boy's network in oil companies and politics.
UPDATE:
Parts of Palin's speech have been leaked to the media and Drudge has the excerpts. Let's just say that she's going to touch all the bases here - connecting with the GOP faithful, attacking the media for its scandalous behavior and overt bias, and going after Obama's experience by comparing it to her own.
Let's just say that the last part - comparing experience is a lose-lose proposition for Obama. He's the top of the Democrat ticket, and she's supposed to be the one with less experience. Yet, the media has pretty much set this up as a comparison between Obama's experience - which is generously described as a legislator despite having no legislation to his name - and Palin, who was mayor and is governor of Alaska.
