Hurricane Ike lashed Cuba with strong winds, heavy surf, and heavy rains, but now all eyes are on the Gulf Coast, particularly along the Texas coast.
Stormpulse has a bunch of interactive maps, including models and tracks. The NHC has it tracking towards Corpus Christi, but prior models and analysis pushing the storm South towards the Mexican border appears to have been ruled out.
The current analysis has the storm hitting somewhere along the Texas coast, and the concern is that it may bring the strongest winds and rain to the Galveston/Houston corridor. How strong the Ike will be is also unknown at this point, but it has the potential to be a significant hurricane. Brendan Loy has much more.
It's still a few days before the track can narrow and more specific guidance can be provided, but it's a good idea for those along the Texas coast to prepare just in case. Texas Governor Rick Perry has already issued pre-disaster declarations and put the National Guard on alert.
