So the National Enquirer Is Now A Legit Media Source

When the National Enquirer uncovered the John Edwards affair with Rielle Hunter, the rest of the media sneered and barely lifted an eyebrow over the reporting until it was confirmed during a Friday night news dump to ABC News.

Now, we've got the National Enquirer again digging for dirt on Sarah Palin's family, and the media has no problem using the Enquirer as a source.

It's funny how that works. The Enquirer reports on the affair involving Edwards, whose sole experience for being President of the US was a single term in the US Senate and was a running mate for John Kerry in 2004 when he had only three years in the Senate under his belt. That gets ignored.

Jammie slams the media for this clear double standard.

The Enquirer reports on the pregnancy of Palin's daughter Bristol and everyone rushes to cover it. In fact, it's a stampede of coverage. Most of the coverage is sneering and venomous. Of course, the National Enquirer isn't alone. The smear merchants have plenty of company, including Us Weekly, Perez Hilton.com and the rest of the media that can't seem to grasp that a woman can do anything a man can do, include run for higher office with a family and children.

Did anyone tell Sen. John F. Kennedy not to run for office because he had small children? Did anyone tell Sen. Joe Biden not to be sworn in as Senator from Delaware after his wife was killed leaving him with small children at home?

The answer is no.

Those who think that Palin shouldn't be on the ticket are the so-called progressives, who are showing themselves to be anything but. They are anti-feminist, or at least against women who don't conform to their preconceived notions of what a successful female politician looks like. If they don't conform, they aren't worthy and must be torn down. There's another word for people like this. Misogynists.

Ace nails it nicely. Obama's people would love to make this sprint to the White House about Bristol Palin. After all, she's about the only one involved who has less experience for higher office than he does.

UPDATE:
Bob Owens points out Brian Ross and ABC News engaging in their own smears - by reframing the timing of when Palin forced corrupt officials from office, as though this is a new scandal. Nice.

UPDATE:
The media assault on the Palin family and attempting to whip up a frenzy of coverage surrounding her pregnancy and that of her daughter Bristol is one born from anger. They didn't see McCain's pick coming, even though there had been signals for some time. Since the media is by definition supposed to know these things before they happen, they were caught off guard and are now trying to redefine Gov. Palin before McCain and the GOP can frame her for the American people.

The media is angry and bitter, and clinging to their sharp words. That's about all they have left.
