Lower Manhattan Construction Updates

The following are a series of photos taken from several key construction sites in Lower Manhattan including Ground Zero, the Fulton Street Transit Hub, and 99 Church (being developed by Silverstein Properties). The first photo shows excavation and foundation work underway at 99 Church, which is expected to be the city's tallest residential tower:

This photo is a ground level photo showing the core foundation rising on the Freedom Tower. You'll note just how close you can come to the building site from where I took this photo, and I expect that pedestrian traffic will be diverted as construction progresses, and that a sidewalk shed will be built to protect pedestrians from falling debris.

I've taken quite a few photos of this particular vantage point (from the Vesey Street pedestrian overpass at the World Financial Center) since it frames the construction progress on the Freedom Tower quite well for comparison purposes. Still, while I have my doubts as to the urgency to rebuild, construction throughout the site is progressing, which is more than you can say about Ground Zero for the past few years.

This is a photo of the Freedom Tower construction area from a month ago:

The Fulton Street Transit hub may never accomplish what the MTA intended and it may have been a money pit, but work is underway on Dey Street to rebuild the street after completing subsurface work including a connector between the World Trade Center complex and the MTA network of trains. The streets throughout the area are a complete mess due to incessant construction, and that they're laying down the curbs and preparing backfill shows that this portion of the project is getting closer to completion.
