The daughter of a psych patient who was ignored as she lay dying on the emergency-room floor at Kings County Hospital plans to file a $25 million lawsuit against the city.I fully expect the City to lose this suit on the merits, and they will attempt to settle the case, but the egregiousness of the circumstances surrounding Green's death cannot be underestimated and Rubenstein would likely push this to trial to maximize the verdict against the City.
Tecia Hairlson, 31, the eldest of 49-year-old Esmin Green's six children in Jamaica, and lawyer Sanford Rubenstein announced the suit yesterday after Green's funeral in Brooklyn.
The shocking June 19 death was captured on surveillance cameras at KCH, and released during an unrelated federal court suit against the hospital.
Green was ignored by security guards and health-care workers for about an hour before doctors and nurses responded.
"People go to hospitals for help, not to be neglected and ignored by those whose obligation is to come to their aid in their time of need," said Rubenstein.
He noted probes are under way by the city's Department of Investigation and the Brooklyn district attorney. KCH said six people were fired or suspended in connection with the incident.
