Restaurant Review: Gotham City Grill

The latest outpost of the Gotham City Diner has opened in Fair Lawn on Route 4 at the split with Route 208 at the location of the former Good Times eatery. It's the second location in North Jersey after one in Ridgefield and there is another outpost operated by the owners under a different name in Kingston, New York.

We were at the Fair Lawn location this past weekend for dinner. After a minor false step - we didn't hear our names called on the waiting list, we were directed to our table. The decor is a modern diner style, with New York City trappings, including the use of subway tiles on the entry, old time signage, and you are greeted by a gelato bar and salad station.

That was one of the first things that got our attention. Salads are plentiful and presented on crisp white dishes. One of the hallmarks of the diner is that you can pretty much make a salad any way you want, with any topping and dressing you can think of.

I ended up choosing a bbq beef brisket sandwich with fries, while Mrs. Lawhawk had a chicken pot pie with a twist - the twist being that the pot pie was actually in a bread bowl. Her dinner came with a soup and side salad.

Our food came out in a timely fashion and the meal was quite good. The beef was nicely shredded and tasty - not overly sauced. The chicken pot pie was very good - lighter than most other pot pie preparations.

All in all, it was a very good value and we'll have to go back to check out their breakfasts, which offer up a wide variety of omlettes and other traditional breakfast fare.
