Mugabe's Goons Hit New Lows

Days after violating international law by detaining and threatening US and British diplomats with violence and damaging embassy property, Mugabe's goons have sunk to new lows.

They murdered the wife of an opposition leader in a most gruesome fashion.
The men who pulled up in three white pickup trucks were looking for Patson Chipiro, head of the Zimbabwean opposition party in Mhondoro district. His wife, Dadirai, told them he was in Harare but would be back later in the day, and the men departed.

An hour later they were back. They grabbed Mrs Chipiro and chopped off one of her hands and both her feet. Then they threw her into her hut, locked the door and threw a petrol bomb through the window.
They burned her to death after torturing her.

UPDATE:
Morgan Tsvangirai has been detained once again.
Later it said Mr. Tsvangirai had been arrested after he and an entourage of 20 people were detained at a roadblock near the central town of Kwekwe while they were out campaigning.

He was being held at the police station in Kwekwe, his party said in a statement.

Mr. Tsvangirai returned to Zimbabwe on May 24, after fleeing abroad over fears for his safety, and has now been held by police on at least three occasions.

There was no immediate indication about whether the two men had been charged or how long they might be held.

The arrests add to a catalogue of what human rights groups have called harassment and intimidation of the government’s opponents in advance of the runoff vote on June 27.
Mugabe's intimidation campaign, complete with ruthless violence, continues unabated with the intent to affect the outcome of the elections in two weeks.

UPDATE:
Now comes word that Mugabe's arrested Tsvangirai's deputy, and charged him with treason. That's a death sentence if it's carried out.
The second-in-command of Zimbabwe's opposition party will be charged with treason, which can carry the death penalty, police said on Thursday.

Authorities said documents linked to Tendai Biti, secretary-general of the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), discuss changing Zimbabwe's government.

Party officials separately said that MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai had been detained again at a roadblock and taken to a police station. He was released about two hours later. It is the third time he has been held by police this month.
Mugabe wants to retain power at all costs, and this is just another sign. It is also quite curious as to why the world is silent over the ongoing mess in Zimbabwe, and South Africa's efforts to run interference for Mugabe despite his disastrous government policies.
