Fossella Drops Reelection Bid

It isn't entirely unexpected, but Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) has chosen not to run for reelection after not only being arrested for a DUI in Virginia, but for engaging in an extramarital affair and fathering a child out of wedlock.

He joins a long string of other prominent politicians from the NYC metro area who have either had to resign in disgrace or not run again because of scandal or criminality, including Sharpe James, Jim McGreevey, and Eliot Spitzer.

Now, this means that the GOP might be able to run a credible candidate in his stead, but the deck is stacked against the GOP this election season. A previously safe seat is now in doubt.
