It's all about seeing the world through arugula colored glasses.
What seems to escape Obama at the moment is that people want to be optimistic about the future, and what they're getting from Obama at the moment is nothing more than browbeating over how they are supposed to feel, and that if they are regular church going folks, that they're doing so not out of religious conviction but because they're bitter.
Generally speaking, people will tend to vote for the candidate who carries off an air of optimism around them. That's what attracted people to Obama in the first place, but it was such a thinly laid veneer, that once people started scratching the surface, they saw someone who was little more than the usual ideologue and race-baiting and class warfare-mongering politician that many have come to despise.
