Spitzer's Legal Woes Just Got Worse?

As I have been saying over the past couple of days, you have to follow the money to see whether disgraced Democrat Eliot Spitzer used state funds to pay his way to his rendezvous with his all too happy hookers. Well, the New York Times reports that he may have used campaign funds.

I'm sure his backers will just love to know that he thought so much of their contributions that he decided to spread the love around.
Prosecutors have asked the governor’s lawyers about the travel arrangements for three trips, including his Feb. 13 rendezvous with a prostitute at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington. The United States attorney’s office in Manhattan has also asked about the governor’s use of car services during trips to Washington.

The governor’s lawyers have begun consulting with a campaign finance expert who has long worked for Mr. Spitzer’s political organization to see whether campaign money was spent on the trips, including some as recently as last month, a person briefed on the investigation said.

The governor, in the two brief statements he made this week as his political career ended, has not directly addressed the allegations concerning his use of prostitutes. But he has told his aides in recent days that he used prostitutes only in the last eight months and never spent campaign or public money in that regard, according to several of the aides. He reaffirmed that position to his lawyer during a meeting at his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday, others present said.
Not only that, but I'm sure they're going to be looking very closely at whether state funds were being used as well.

Meanwhile, I hear that Ashley Dupre is cashing in quite well after being outed as one of the hookers Spitzer utilized. Figures.

One has to wonder what the threshold is between being just a hooker/prostitute and a call girl. They're doing the same basic business, but apparently because someone gets to charge more, you can differentiate your business.

What doesn't figure is that Dupre was hardly the only woman with whom Spitzer paid for sex at the Emperor's Club. Yet, she's the one who's gaining all the notoriety.

And while we're on the subject of who's in the news and who isn't, who were the other clients?

UPDATE:
Even though Spitzer is heading out the door, the State Senate is continuing its investigations into Troopergate - they want to see documents from the Second Floor relating to the flap, to see whether officials engaged in improper conduct.

Spitzer's security detail is also being questioned in what they knew about Spitzer's activities relating to the prostitution ring.
Two troopers were with Spitzer on Feb. 13, when he stayed at the swank Mayfair Hotel in Washington. He spent several hours with a 22-year-old prostitute he knew as Kristen but whose real name is Ashley Alexandra Dupre.

Both troopers stayed in the same hotel, as did two of Spitzer's aides, Erol Cockfield and Dan Cantor, according to state records.

The State Police internal probe is aimed at finding out how Spitzer, who registered for two separate rooms just for himself, could have cavorted with a hooker without the knowledge of his security detail.
Meanwhile, the Office of General Services is busy scrubbing Spitzer's name from state buildings around the state and putting up Paterson's name. I think they're going to use heavy duty bleach to get that stench out.

Yes, this will be costing the state a pretty penny in more ways than one.
