I guess teleconferencing was not an option to cut the greenhouse emissions caused by thousands of folks attending a UN conference on global warming, which hypes the masses overuse of petroleum based fuels and deforestation as a cause of man-made global warming.
Perhaps the location has something to do with that fact. After all, if you're an NGO or a diplomat, why would you want to teleconference from your home country, when you can jet halfway around the world to Bali.
Never mind the remoteness of the location, or the burden placed on the environment by holding such confabs. It's all about raising awareness of the problem. Just don't mention that UN agenices have overstated the case on other pressing issues - all in the name of awareness and money-grabbing.
