Atlantic City Mayor Pleads Guilty To Bilking Government on Benefits

Robert Levy, who went missing last month after questions were raised about his war record, claimed on a Veterans Administration form in January 2003 that he had earned a combat infantry badge and a parachutist badge, had attended airborne school and had made up to 100 jumps during which he had injured his shoulder. Those claims were untrue, he admitted.

Federal prosecutors contend the false claims led to an overpayment of $24,683.

"He feels terrible," said his attorney, Edwin Jacobs. "He's very sorry that he let these things happen."

Sentencing was scheduled for Feb. 15, 2008. Federal sentencing guidelines call for up to six months in jail. As part of his plea agreement, Levy waived his right to appeal the sentence if it falls within the guidelines.
Name that party gets another workout since this story lacks that minor detail. He's a Democrat, and he thought that he could get additional benefits fromt he Veterans Administration that he was not entitled to. He served in the military but exaggerated as to the kind of service performed.

Now, he'll be performing a slightly different service - preferably banging out license plates.
