Today promises to be an interesting day for The New Republic as Bob Owens via Pajamas Media and Michelle Malkin level fire at TNR and the editors for their ongoing failure to deal with the Scott Thomas Beauchamp affair in a forthright and upstanding manner.
TNR fails to acknowledge the story is about their failure to fact check in any meaningful way prior to publication and then the story became about them and their editorial decisions by lying and obfuscating facts and evidence.
TNR claimed that the Army muzzled Beauchamp and prohibited him from speaking to the media, while the Army has repeatedly stated that Beauchamp is free to talk with whoever he sees fit - and that he's chosen not to talk about the matter although in the course of the Army investigation they found not a single instance where another soldier could corroborate Beauchamp's stories. See-Dubya notes that if this were the case, someone on the Left would be pointing out the free speech implications of such a move.
There has been nothing but an eerie silence over the whole matter as though TNR and the Leftists would simply wish the whole matter disappear because the exposure as a fabulist would undermine their position about the war in general.
