Neat Photo of the Day

The photo in question is the International Space Station and Space Shuttle Atlantis while in orbit earlier this month. A team of astronomers on the ground were able to use a basic telescope, digital camera, and some basic adaptive optics to take this incredible photo.

I recall seeing the ISS speeding across the heavens while at Bryce Canyon National Park with Mrs. Lawhawk. It literally crossed from horizon to horizon within a matter of minutes, and knowing that the astronomers had moments in which to take the photo adds to the difficulty. It should also give some idea as to what our intel capabilities are to spy on the satellites of foreign powers, not to mention what our space based-satellites are capable of seeing back here on Earth.
