Mudslinging 101

Senator Harry Reid is a mudslinger. Pure and simple. He continually denigrates the US military, its leadership, and the mission.

His latest statements about outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Gen. Peter Pace, were reprehensible. The Politico reported it thusly:
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid called Marine Gen. Peter Pace, the outgoing chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, "incompetent" during an interview Tuesday with a group of liberal bloggers, a comment that was never reported.

Reid made similar disparaging remarks about Army Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said several sources familiar with the interview.
The usual suspects, like Daily Kos, claimed that The Politico, which reported the story, was making it up out of whole cloth or exaggerating things.

Ad hominem attacks ensued.

The truth? Well, let's go to the audio tape. Reid says exactly what Politico reported about Pace.

And despite the claims, Reid actually voted to approve Gen. Petreus. Figures.

He's a hack politician who cannot be taken seriously, and the lefty bloggers he repeatedly sucks up to can't be trusted either. Instapundit notes that Reid's comments simply don't register among the far left fringe because it wasn't extreme enough to register.

This incident once again calls into question Reid's judgment and ability to lead the Democrats in the Senate. He repeatedly undermines the US military and the military leadership during a time of war with statements that are simply unjustified by the facts.

One has to wonder whether Reid even bothers to read the briefings by the military, or simply has made up his mind that the US has lost Iraq and will not fill his time with facts that are contrary to his assertions.

Don Surber notes what former Senator Frist had to say about Reid's comments about the surge failing when the full complement of forces aren't even in place.
