Explosive Find on Staten Island

A neighborhood on Staten Island, New York has been evacuated because of finding 3,000 pounds of potassium nitrate at a home.
Sources said ATF executed a search warrant at 199 Ada Drive and discovered 3,000 pounds of potassium nitrate or ammonium nitrate, the same materials used in the 1995 Oklahoma City Bombing. Sources also said one person has been taken into custody.

One law enforcement source said the person in custody unsuccessfully tried to purchase ammonium nitrate in Ohio and "instead left with 3,000 pounds of potassium nitrate." The person in Ohio who refused the sale turned around and subsequently called Federal authorities.
One person is in custody, and investigators are trying to figure out what was going on.
Officials said the man arrested, described as a male Hispanic, 57, has a past felony conviction and served federal time at a Connecticut prison
One theory is that the persons involved may have been trying to make homemade fireworks, although another theory is far more dangerous - that they were looking to make bombs. Here's some background on potassium nitrate.

A search warrant was executed on a storage facility as well.

Here's a map of the incident. The area is near to the West Shore Expressway and convenient to the Goethals and Bayonne Bridges to give one an idea of location.
