Structural steel for use in the WTC memorial has been ordered and will be made and fabricated in several sites around the world.
Meanwhile, the Deutsche Bank building continues to have bad jobu. The building is currently being dismantled to make way for a new office building and security center for underground access to the WTC complex but a section of pipe fell from the 35th floor and hit the firehouse next door. Two firefighters were injured.
A 15-foot pipe fell off a skyscraper being dismantled near the World Trade Center site and plunged through the roof of a nearby firehouse Thursday, injuring two firefighters, officials said.Questions continue to swirl over the air quality at Ground Zero in the hours and weeks after the collapse. I doubt the recriminations and debate will end. It will continue to be a sore spot for many, and the problem is that the workers who did so much are treated as little more than political pawns to score points.
Demolition work was stopped on the 40-story former Deutsche Bank building after the sprinkler pipe fell from the 35th floor onto Engine 10/Ladder 10.
The firehouse was nearly destroyed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Six of its firefighters were among the 343 killed responding to the burning World Trade Center, and a bronze memorial to all the firefighters who died is now affixed to the building.
Also, more remains have been identified in recent weeks. Yet, more than 1,100 people have yet to be identified via remains.
Nine victims have been positively identified this year, and three last fall, after the city began retesting human remains with advanced DNA technology.
There are still more than 1,100 victims who have never been identified from the thousands of remains recovered after the 9/11 attacks. More human remains were being recovered daily from in and around ground zero.
