New Jersey Eats: Kinchley's Tavern

Kinchley's Tavern, located in Ramsey, New Jersey doesn't do much outside to let you know how good the food is inside. Nothing except the always full parking lot that was overflowing on Friday night when we stopped in to try the food.

Food reviews of the place rave about the pizza, and they're right. They use a sweet tomato sauce that has just the right mix of spices and the mozzarella cheese is in the right proportion. It's a thin crust pizza that rivals some of the better places in New York City.

Best of all, prices at Kinchley's are quite affordable although they only accept cash. Patrons are quite friendly and the wait staff was courteous and quick.

This is a place that you go for the food, not the decor, not that the decor should matter when you want a good slice of pizza. We had a bar pizza and burger deluxes and all were done quite well. The interior is stuck in the 1950s and there is a wall of model trains separating the bar area from the seating area. The fact that the restaurant, like all others in New Jersey, is non-smoking makes a world of difference. You can actually enjoy the food and not come home reeking of tobacco.
