Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts have finally beaten the nemesis of Belechik and Brady. They won in a hard fought game 38-34, but that doesn't even begin to tell the tale of this game. Before you knew it, the Colts were down big in the first half 21-3. They managed to get another field goal right before the half, to make the score 21-6.
The second half was a complete turnaround as the Colts dominated with time of possession and the scoreboard. The Colts managed to get even with the Patriots three different times in the second half, and took the lead on a Joseph Addai run with about a minute to play.
Brady then had a minute left to drive the field. However, he threw an interception with about 15 seconds to go, and that's the ball game. Game. Set. Match.
Meanwhile, in the NFC championship game played in the snowy and blustery Soldiers' Field, the Bears dominated the Saints 39-14. Reggie Bush couldn't get it done all by himself as the Saints had four turnovers and the Bears were able to capitalize time and time again. Thomas Jones ran for two TDs and Rex Grossman put in a good enough performance to not sabotage his team's chances. Bush had an amazing 88-yard run for a TD, that got the score to within two points at 16-14, but it was all Bears thereafter.
The Saints were the feel-good story for the NFL as they put together a remarkable run during the course of the season and Reggie Bush looks like he's the real deal. The Saints gave New Orleans a wonderful distraction from all the misery that still surrounds the Superdome and the city still struggling to get on its feet.
Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy will meet in the Super Bowl, which marks the first time in NFL history that African American coaches will be coaching in the big game. That's a great accomplishment and a huge personal achievement for both men as it puts them one win away from winning the NFL championship. Indeed, three of the four coaches in the Championship Games were African American.
