The Passing of Jeane Kirkpatrick

Her death was announced Friday at the senior staff meeting of the U.S. mission to the United Nations. Spokesman Richard Grenell said that Ambassador John Bolton asked for a moment of silence.

A death announcement is also posted on the Web site of the American Enterprise Institute, a conservative-oriented think tank here where she was a senior fellow.

Kirkpatrick's assistant, Andrea Harrington, said that she died in her sleep at home in Bethesda, Maryland. The cause of death was not immediately announced.
Kirkpatrick was a staunch defender of US interests at the United Nations and was excoriated by those who thought that the Ambassador should represent UN interests in the US (a position that John Bolton knows quite intimately).

Michelle Malkin has more.

UPDATE:
Others weighing in on the death of Jeane Kirkpatrick and her legacy:
Babalu Blog notes the passing of another lion. It Shines For All notes her role as a staunch defender of the US during the Cold War

Right Voices and Instapinch also weigh in.

UPDATE:
Blogs of War has a huge update of reaction, and of special note is how the left side of the 'sphere is reacting. Utter hatred and disdain dripping from every word. Figures.

Hang Right Politics notes that Kirkpatrick may have once been a Democrat, then a Republican, but was always a staunch anti-Communist. We need a lot more people like that - ones who can recognize the threats to the West and aren't afraid to speak out about them regardless of which side of the aisle they reside. There are all too few of those types these days.

Charles at LGF, Hot Air, Failed Messiah, Below the Beltway, Atlas Shrugs Anchor Rising, The Political PitBull, also weigh in.
