I wouldn't trust Iran's intentions with respect to Iraq. Iran knows the threat posed by a stable and prosperous Iraqi nation on its border - one that has close ties to the US. That cannot be allowed to happen, so the Iranians are pulling out all the stops to try and sway the Iraqis to kick the US out - including ratcheting up the level of violence inside Iraq.
Ahmadinejad wants the Iraqis to tell the US to get the US troops out. Bush for his part refuses to withdraw US forces until the job is finished.
Iran is also trying to help Iraq by claiming it would assist Iraq in improving its security situation. Given that so much of the insurgents and terrorists were getting their equipment and manpower from Iran and Syria, I'd say that this is an empty promise.
