All those taxes that Jon Corzine wanted to pass the budget are finally taking effect today. Thanks to the complete and utter inability of the state legislators to cut spending, they found the only way to balance the budget was to begin imposing taxes on services that had previously been exempt.
The new taxes are on the following goods and services:
~ tattoos
~ parking
~ digital downloads
~ memberships in country clubs, golf clubs and health clubs
~ more landscaping services
~ limousines
~ floor and carpet installations
~ tanning salons
~ magazines sold at newsstands
Those items will be subject to a 7% sales and use tax. It's hoped to generate $342 million in additional revenue.
That's New Jersey for you.
