The Battle for Ground Zero, Part 177

Additional examination of manholes at Ground Zero have yielded yet more remains. More than 100 remains have been recovered this week alone. They've ranged in size from less than an inch up to 12 inches in length. Forty percent of the victims from the 9/11 terror attacks at Ground Zero were never identified via remains.

I noted earlier this week that the head of Cantor Fitzgerald was offering up to $25 million to the WTC Memorial if the foundation would put the names in order. Mayor Bloomberg, who's now heading up the foundation's fundraising activities, rejected the gift saying that no one is going to dictate how the names will be arranged based on the gift. Considering how poorly the fundraising has gone, that's a hard tact to take, though one can understand why the mayor should reject efforts to try and affect the way the memorial is designed. The problem is that many of the families and firefighters and police unions believe that the design of the memorial itself is flawed.
