Is Chavez the Mussolini of our generation? On the whole, I think there's a good comparison even if Chavez can't get the trains to run on time and is running the Venezuelan economy into the ground. He is, after all, playing second fiddle to Ahmadinejad. That counts for quite a bit.
It's always fun listening to dictators who have no problem tossing their political prisoners into prisons or killing them outright lecture the US on the rights of man.
The NY Daily News put it succinctly:
The thing is, we're stuck with President Mr. Ahmadinejad. We try to be polite. Welcome to New York, you medieval goon. You can substitute genocidal maniac or Hitler wannabe for medieval goon, if you like (HT GOP and the City).

UPDATE:
Ed Morrissey thinks Ahmadinejad has given the world a glimpse into the dark recesses of his evil intents, including calling for the destruction of Israel at the body that voted for its existence. I hope the world notices, and more to the point, actually recognizes and does something about the threats. The same applies to Chavez.
Ace and his minions wade into the fever swamps so I didn't have to. No surprise that the Lefties at DU loved Chavez's routine.

Malkin has a roundup on Chavez and Ahmadinejad. Texas Rainmaker reminds folks that we've heard this claptrap from Chavez before.
UPDATE:
Still more reaction filtering in about Chavez and his rantin' n' raving. Fausta and Roger L. Simon thought Chavez was more suitable for an SNL skit than the UN General Assembly. While one can truly have fun satirizing the heck out of Chavez and his buddy Ahmadinejad, he really thinks that it's his mission to knock the US off its perch.

Macranger thinks the big media outlets, like Brian Williams at NBC, have jumped the shark by giving time to the dictators and genocidal maniacs with deadly intentions.
Now, what did the US have to say about all this ruckus? US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton noted that Chavez had the right to speak freely at the UN, just as he does at any demonstration in Central Park, but hoped that the Venezuelan people had that right as well (hint: they don't). US Secretary of State Condi Rice wouldn't dignify a response. I think Bolton struck the right tone. These dictators and thugs come to the UN where they enjoy the benefits of what US democracy has fought for and defended, and that these same dictators and thugs deny their own people on a daily basis.

Pamela at Atlas Shrugs has more on the rally today in support of Israel and against Ahmadinejad and his genocidal intentions.
Secular Blasphemy also comments on Chavez whoring Noam Chomsky's book. And here you thought that folks criticizing the US at home wouldn't be read overseas? Chomsky is studied by the enemies of this country on a regular basis. His self-loathing of the US and its role in the world is a prop for use by despots and dictators around the world.
Now, think of what our political leaders say and do on a regular basis when opposing what the President is doing at any time - and this goes for any administration. It was often said that the politics ended at our shores, but that was never really the case. It is even less accurate today, when we have Senators and other politicians yapping away to foreign audiences about how the US has done wrong or push conspiratorial theories that boggle the mind. The dictators and despots suck this pablum up and reguritate it to their audiences that simply don't know any better.
And thus we get what we saw today. Chavez and Ahmadinejad repeating talking points that were previously used by Democrat politicians.
Scared Monkeys wonders if any Venezuelans are paying attention to what their l'enfant terrible did today.
UPDATE:
More than a few people are wondering whether Chavez's speech was the result of a Rove plot, including Sensible Mom, Wizbang, Llama Butchers, and James Taranto.
Sigmund Carl and Alfred, Dr. Sanity, and Neoneocon all chime in with their psychiatric opinions for Chavez and Ahmadinejad. The prognosis isn't good. Chavez and Ahmadinejad are suffering from terminal BDS, and not even Obi Wan Kenobi can save them.
