Manning Coming of Age?

Has the Giants QB Eli Manning finally come of age in orchestrating a comeback in yesterday's 30-26 thriller in OT? It was done on the road. Against Philly.

For much of the game, Eli found himself on his back, as his offensive line was overwhelmed and the running game was virtually nonexistent. The Philly offense was able to do as it pleased.

Yet, things began to change in the 4th Quarter. A rally began when a series of unlikely bounces after a Burress fumble resulted in Tim Carter dropping on the ball in the Eagle endzone to give the Giants a badly needed touchdown.

Manning was able to get the team into position to make the game tying fieldgoal attempt. He then was able to put together a great drive in overtime to secure the win.

So what does this all mean? Has Eli come of age?

I think that's the wrong question actually. Eli did show presence and didn't get rattled, despite the fearsome pounding he took at the hands of the Philly defense. No happy feet. No bad throws into triple coverage.

He led the team. And the players rallied around him.

We've seen flashes of this kind of performance before. He doesn't get fazed by the pressure, and continues to improve on his composure and limiting his mistakes. It's the latter that is the key to greater things. By limiting his mistakes, he puts his team in better position to exploit the chances provided by his teammates.

Best of all, he beat the Eagles in Philly. And when you can do that, there's nothing better.
