The Hill: Democrats Not Lining Up Behind Murtha

Democrats are not flocking to Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) and his bid to become majority leader should the Democrats win control of the House. The article cites that the support isn't forthcoming "...despite his outspoken stance against the Iraq war." I think that's a misguided position. I think the reason Murtha isn't getting the support is because of his position on the Iraq war.

Most Americans simply do not agree with Murtha's proposition that we need to leave Iraq immediately. Cutting and running, which is precisely what Murtha has advocated, is not even a concensus opinion among Democrats, let alone most Americans.

Murtha's position is out of the mainstream, but it plays well with the Leftists and netroots.
