The Battle For Ground Zero, Part 171

The plan to dismantle the Deutsche Bank building has been approved. This eyesore has been shrouded in black mesh ever since the terrorist attacks destroyed the WTC complex and the collapsing South Tower heavily damaged the building. Now, if the city and state could agree on dismantling and rebuilding Fiterman Hall, we'd have some real progress. That eyesore is on the other side of the recently completed 7WTC and stands empty because of damage and contamination issues not unlike the Deutsche Bank building. Instead of insurers trying to figure out whether the building can be salvaged, the Governor, CUNY and city officials have been unable to figure out what to do next.

UPDATE:
The Daily News reports that the Governor sought to expedite the approval process on the Deutsche Bank building even though there have been recent questions as to the safety at the building - and possible releases of contaminated dust and materials in the course of the deconstruction.
