Bumping Uglies and Political Mudslinging: CT Style

You want to bump into the ugly side of politics? Want to see political mudslinging of the worst kind? Just take a gander at the Ned Lamont campaign, its close advisors, and the folks who are supporting him in his primary run against Democrat party incumbent Joe Lieberman in Connecticut.

Want to show Lieberman in blackface? We've got that.

Want to show Lieberman in highly suggestive poses and thinly veiled homosexual acts? This race has that too.

In both of these instances, it's the lefty bloggers who are busy throwing racist and outrageous imagery all in the name of defeating Joe. They don't like Lieberman very much because he's been unwavering in his support of the war in Iraq and the global war on terror in general. It doesn't matter that he's voted Democrat 90% of the time, was the former Vice Presidential candidate for the Democrats in 2000, or that he's a three-term incumbent. The far left of the Democrat party want to purge the party of anyone who doesn't hew to their line. Thus, the assault on Lieberman.

Another question would be why they've decided to use such vile imagery? Who knows. Maybe the nutbars who published them to the Internet thought they were funny, or that it would further their agenda.

So, who exactly were posting these images? In the case of the blackface photo, it was posted by close adviser to Lamont, Jane Hamsher, who posted the image on Huffington Post. Michelle Malkin has the details, though this article in Slate suggests that Hamsher is just trying to be an insider and that if she were truly a staffer, she would have known just how stupid such a move would be. Lamont can try to deny that he knows of Hamsher, but the photo evidence shows quite a different picture. The spin coming from Hamsher and Lamont are laughable and inexcusable.

There's a time to stop digging and accept that you not only went over the line, but obliterated it in a big way.

The Kos images, are symptomatic of the bigger problem for not only Lamont or Lieberman, but for the Democrats at large. Will the party police itself and rid itself of the racists. Where are the adults in the party to serve notice that this behavior will not be tolerated? Or, have they held their nose because they want to achieve power, and will do anything to get it no matter how distasteful.

With this race coming down to the last hours, this could have a big effect on the race. Polls are showing that Lamont is building a big lead in the primary. Far from helping Lamont, Hamsher looks like she could make the race far closer than she had envisioned for all the wrong reasons.
