A Lighter Note: Who Would You Pick

If you're a general manager tasked with starting a team from scratch, which combination of players would you want to serve as cornerstones of your team for the next decade: Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter or David Wright and Jose Reyes?

It's a great question, and I think you can argue it in either direction.

However, I'd lean towards the combination in Shea - if only because they're still young and years away from their prime. In 10 years time, Jeter and A Rod might be spending extended stretches on the DL or otherwise lose bat speed and mobility that forces position changes. In 10 years, Wright and Reyes will still be in their prime.

It's a different question if your horizon is 5 years or to win this year, in which case I'd want the Yankees.

To their credit, the Mets have put together quite a team for the future. Let's hope they can bring in sufficient pitching to compliment their budding superstars in the infield.
