The New York Times is reporting that the New York Knicks have fired coach Larry Brown.
Duh!
He's been a goner the moment the season ended. Everyone knew it was a matter of time, and the only question was if the Dolans would buy out the contract or fire him and eat the contract price (what's a couple of million dollars - or $30 million) to a billionaire?
I haven't followed the Knicks in a while - they haven't been anywhere near as good or consistent as the cross-river Nets. There's a reason that's the case. Bad management. Brown wasn't the problem with the team. It starts at the top and the bad decisions seem to multiply around GM Isiah Thomas who has never seen a bad trade he didn't like. Brown was saddled with bad players and ones who refused to play defense. Lots of high priced talent were brought in who lack heart and work ethic.
That isn't the coach's fault, but the GMs.
This sets up the delicious possibility of watching Isiah coach the team to futility. Considering that every team (and even an entire league - the CBA) that has been run by Isiah has been run into the ground, the Knicks are no exception. Perhaps after another season of disasterous results someone will finally wise up and realize that Thomas has absolutely no business having anything to do with decision making in basketball.
Brown, on the other hand, will end up coaching another team, and will probably do quite well.
