They're Gonna Need Another Number 2

With Zarqawi gone, al Qaeda spent a few days trying to figure out who should replace him. Well, in that time, coalition forces in conjunction with Iraqi forces rolled up hundreds of insurgents and terrorists operating across Iraq including a number of highly placed al Qaeda terrorists. Overall, more than 100 were killed and hundreds more were captured.

CENTCOM acknowledges that among those captured was a very high level al Qaeda terrorist and three of his close associates. Another raid resulted in the death of Zarqawi's "right-hand man" in a raid in Yusifiya on Friday. Iraqi Mansur Suleiman al-Mashhadani was "a key leader in al-Qaeda" and could have succeeded Zarqawi.

Others noting the successful campaign against the terrorists: Suitably Flip (who has a good roundup), Politburo Diktat, AJ Strata, Gulf Coast Pundit, Sister Toldjah, Ninth State, and Liberty and Justice.
