Slander

The UK Times has a big problem. They're running a photo with a caption stating that the bodies in the photo were victims in Haditha, and the photo accompanies a story about the Marine investigation into the Haditha incident.

The problem?

The photo was not what the Times purports it to be. It was taken from a different incident - one where insurgents murdered 19 fishermen and Iraqi National Guardsmen as Newsweek noted.

It's absolutely unconscionable that the Times would conflate the two incidents and run a photo that clearly is designed to enrage people against the Marines and undermine support for the US mission in Iraq when the victims pictured were the result of insurgent actions.

I think Michelle is right to request that people send letters to the editor at the Times demanding an apology. I would suggest that in addition to an apology, that the Times should make the public retraction an above the fold front page story. After all, our Marines deserve as much.
