The Great Falls of the Passaic River, a 70 foot high cataract and the second tallest waterfalls on the East Coast behind the mighty Niagara Falls, is one of the hidden wonders in New Jersey.
Being in the middle of Patterson, New Jersey doesn't help matters. But, there's a move afoot to make the Falls, and its immediate environs a National Park. It's part of a wider plan to improve the economy of the area, which has been in decline for most of the 20th Century. Here's hoping that this eventually comes to fruition. The falls can be absolutely spectacular, especially after the kind of rain we've had this past weekend.
Here's my own photo of the Falls, which was originally posted here.
