This Day In History

25 years ago Ronald Reagan was nearly assassinated by John Hinckley. Three others were shot, with Jim Brady being the most seriously injured other than Reagan. Brady has never fully recovered from his injuries.

Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity, and thereafter confined to St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C. He has been allowed unsupervised visits with his elderly parents since December 17, 2003, when U.S. District Judge Paul Friedman granted Hinckley the right.
