Spotting a Lynch Mob

Ace spotted this photo (and spotted by Michelle Malkin):
Afghans rally during a demonstration in the northern city of Mazar-i-Shariff, Afghanistan March 27, 2006. In the first protest over the case of Afghan man, Abdur Rahman who converted from Islam to Christianity, several hundred people led by clerics demonstrated in Mazar-i-Shariff, demanding Rahman be tried under Islamic law.
UPDATE:
Abdul Rahman is intent upon seeking asylum in another country. That's a pretty smart move on his part as his safety is in question considering that it was apparently members of his own family that turned him in to Afghan authorities in the first place.

This whole episode underlines the existential problems facing Islam and its interaction with Western thought. They operate on completely difference realms and speak past each other.

UPDATE:
Others blogging this story: MacsMind who notes that Rahman was not the first, and will not be the last Christian persecuted by Islam, Fire and Hammer, who reminds us how far we've come and how far we have to go, and The Anchoress wonders who will give Rahman sanctuary.

And this whole episode has apparently gotten Afghans interested in Christianity. The law of unintended consequences rears its head.
