Twenty Years

Twenty years ago today, the Space Shuttle Challenger was destroyed after a failure of the O-rings on one of the booster rockets caused the external fuel tank to explode and the shuttle began to disintegrate about two minutes into the flight. All seven astronauts on board were killed, though some of the astronauts survived the inital explosion only to die when the shuttle cockpit slammed into the Atlantic Ocean several minutes later.

The seven astronauts are:
Commander Dick Scobee
Pilot Mike Smith
Greg Jarvis
Christa McAuliffe
Ron McNair
Ellison Onizuka
Judy Resnik
