Go Figure: Yet Another UN Scandal

On top of the UNSCAM/Oil for Food scandal that continues to be investigated by UN officials and US and French investigators, we've got yet another scandal involving the UN:
The United Nations acknowledged yesterday that it has been rocked by a major new financial scandal after eight of its officers were suspended and 200 separate investigations were launched in its procurement department.

In a bombshell announcement, Christopher Burnham, undersecretary general for management, said an internal audit into the purchasing of supplies for peacekeeping operations found widespread waste and corruption that has raised "a number of serious concerns" about the U.N. procurement system.

"The potential abuse could go into the tens of millions of dollars," Burnham said.

"It could go higher than that, but we are in the middle of looking at 200 different reports of abuse."
Waste, corruption, and graft? Say it isn't so. Meanwhile, Tongsun Park was indicted on his involvement in UNSCAM. He allegedly took millions of dollars in secret payouts from Saddam Hussein to lobby on his behalf.

UPDATE:
Claudia Rossett, who's been investigating UNSCAM seems to think that the scandal in the procurement division may actually be as bad as, or worse than, UNSCAM itself, reports Roger L. Simon.
