Eco Terrorist Among Those Arrested at 2004 GOP Convention

One of the leading 2004 Republican National Convention agitators was locked up yesterday on eco-terrorism charges dating back four years.
Federal prosecutors allege Daniel McGowan — also known as "Jamie Moran" — torched a pair of lumber companies in Oregon as a member of the Earth Liberation Front.

McGowan, who was born in Brooklyn and raised by a NYPD cop in Rockaway Beach, Queens, was charged with arson, along with five others.

He faces up to life in prison.

Judge Roanne Mann refused a $1 million bail package offered by McGowan's father, mother and two sisters — effectively locking him up until he is transferred to Oregon, where he'll go on trial.

McGowan was arrested at his office on Court Street in Downtown Brooklyn, where he works for an organization that provides legal information and resources to victims of domestic violence.

A self-described anarchist, McGowan was one of the leading protesters against the 2004 RNC, founding the Web site RNCNotWelcome.org, a message board where groups from around the country promoted demonstrations.
It's a small world, after all. McGowan is a member of the Earth Liberation Front, which has committed acts of terrorism throughout the US under the banner of environmentalism. They've inflicted millions of dollars of damage on property owners and businesses that don't conform to the ideas of the terrorist group.
