Paul's response follows:
We're doomed!Unfortunately, I think he's right. While the 9/11 attacks occurred under different circumstances, the panel for overseeing the rebuilding and restoration of services in Lower Manhattan was decided between the Mayor, Governor, Port Authority of NY/NJ, 9/11 familiy members, and City Council. Members were chosen by various groups - and the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation was formed. They speak with one voice though dominated by Gov. Pataki.
New Orleans is going to have at least three separate groups trying to determine how to rebuild? Sounds like gumbo to me. Bad gumbo.
NOLA is nearly dry and people continue streaming back in to survey the damage. What are they going to come home to? The same stink in government that they're seeing in their own homes - a toxic stew of garbage and rotting debris.
A housecleaning is going to be necessary if New Orleans has any chance at recovering.
