Hinrichs Bombing Grows Curiouser

Michelle Malkin provides updates. Powerline notes that more bomb making equipment was found at Hinrichs' apartment.
The FBI has not announced details about the bomb, but Channel 5 News reported Tuesday night that Hinrichs' bomb contained acetone peroxide, or TATP. The highly unstable chemical can be made from household items, but it is very sensitive to heat and shock.
Law enforcement found more bomb-making materials Sunday at Hinrichs' residence at the Parkview Apartments, and they were detonated that evening. Earlier last week, Hinrichs tried to buy ammonium nitrate fertilizer from Ellison Feed and Seed in east Norman.

Dustin Ellison said the student visited his store last Wednesday and asked to buy the fertilizing ingredient often used in bombs. Ellison said Hinrichs didn't know how much he needed, and the store operator asked why the fertilizer was needed. After further discussion, Ellison said "something didn't feel right" and decided not to sell any materials to him.
I've seen differing accounts of this 'encounter,' some of which indicate that Ellison no longer provides the fertilizer; ammonium nitrate, which also happens to be the primary ingredient in the bomb used to blow up the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City.

Apparently Hinrichs was known to law enforcement, though it appears to grow out of the events that supposedly occurred at Ellison's business.

Where is the national press on this story? One would think that with a suicide bombing outside a major sporting event with 80,000 fans as potential targets, the media would be hanging from the rafters to get in with the sensationalized accounts and reporting that we've come to know and expect? Has the media been cowed because of the poor reporting on Rita/Katrina? Doubtful.

I think the answer is easier than that - they simply don't have a nose for the news. Especially news that highlights our susceptibility to Islamic terrorism. All the signs are there that this a terrorist attack that went premature. Yet the media doesn't want to highlight Hinrichs' links to the nearby mosque, the frequent sightings of Hinrichs attenting the mosque despite the protestations of the head of the MSA who is busy being a PR flack rather than making sure that the facts get out.

Heck, the MSA could be telling the truth - that Hinrichs wasn't a convert to Islam, and yet Hinrichs regularly visited the mosque. It doesn't address what he was doing there or why he was spotted there by witnesses. The MSA is simply trying to provide distance between the incident and their own community.

UPDATE:
Flopping Aces has more, including more background about the ammonium nitrate angle and how law enforcement came to that information.
