Dithering on Dafur

In the last two weeks 44 people have been killed by the Janjaweed. This while the UN was looking on in its glorious disconnected reality.
The Janjaweed have been blamed for driving people from their villages in Darfur.

The Sudanese government has admitted arming them, but now says they are bandits, and out of control.
If the Sudanese armed them, they know how to unarm them. But that wouldn't be part of the Sudanese policy would it? It's far better for Sudan if the Janjaweed do the government's dirty work as an independent contractor, which is apparently fine by the government.

And the UN nods its head in silent assent while its local officials count the butcher's bill.
