The Houston Astros advanced to their first World Series appearance in their history. Congratulations. They did so in St. Louis, at what will have been the last game played in Busch Stadium.
The Pujols home run in game 5 will be but an asterisk in baseball lore.
The 'stros will be facing the Chicago White Sox, who will be trying to overcome more than twice the 'stros futility - their last championship banner was 1917 and last appearance was 1959. Oh, and they were involved in the 1919 Black Sox scandal that nearly destroyed the sport.
On the other hand, the Astros have participated in three of the longest playoff games in history, some of the most memorable playoff games in history, and generally have had a run of bad luck so deep that they were the team version of Bill Buckner. Until now.
So, with all that history behind these two teams, something has gotta give.
I predict it will - Astros in six.
Technorati: astros, baseball, cardinals.
