Stop The Cronyism

Michelle Malkin is livid over the cronyism involved in the DHS nominee to run ICE. They've picked someone who has the bare minimum of qualifications to run the largest investigative arm of DHS and is on the front lines of the war on terror.

Why?

Well, it could be because Julie Myers is related to former JCS Gen. Myers (she's his neice)and just married Michael Chertoff's chief of staff this past Sunday.

Now, she could be competent to do the job, but do we really want to take that chance?

I'm with Malkin on this. There is no good reason to consider someone who is barely qualified to run this agency, especially in light of the cronyism that may have played a role in the failures to respond effectively during Katrina (see Brown, Michael, former head of FEMA).

Will Congress simply let things slide or will they actually do their job to advise and consent? This is one time that the GOP should stand up to the President and tell him to pick someone better. We're supposed to be beyond the age of patronage and cronyism. I know that Bush isn't the first President to spread the wealth around to his favorites, and he isn't the first to do so during a time of crisis, but we must expect more from our elected officials. In fact, we must demand better.
