As for charitable giving and what you can do, many organizations are accepting donations. If you plan on giving, I recommend the B'nai B'rith has set up a Disaster Relief Fund. Many companies, including my own, are matching employee donations (mine is doing a double match - impressive). Go check them out.

Hurrican Katrina Data Collection effort is underway. This volunteer effort is attempting to collect data from those affected by the storms and help them get in contact with loved ones. Since most folks in the Gulf Coast area are without electricity, let alone Internet connections, this is a great idea to help. The website is located at Katrinaupdate.com (opens in new window)
