I took these pictures in Times Square on September 2, 2005. I haven't posted them til now because I shoot in film, not digitial (hey, if you want to help me get the Canon Digital Rebel XT, then by all means, I await your donations or purchases of photos from my waterfall collection). This particular group of protestors was setting up directly in front of the Armed Forces Recruiting Center. As you'll soon see, the usual suspects are there:
They continue setting up, and there are photographers there, looking to get the demonstration in their full glory. Funny, but I think that some of the more interesting shots come when they're still setting up. You catch these people off-guard, and it's more spontaneous than shouting oft-repeated slogans.
Just remember, that you can't have an anti-American, anti-Bush protest without your guy or gal wearing a stock Che shirt. Does this guy even know who Che was? What he stood for? How many people sufferd? How many people died because of what he stood for? I think he knows, but doesn't care. He's got a bigger fish to fry.
As the protest banners note, this is all about stopping the military spending so that it can go to Katrina victims. Funny, but many of the rescues in the days and weeks after the flooding hit New Orleans and all along the wrecked Gulf Coast, it was US military search and rescue teams that conducted rescues - saving the lives of hundreds, if not thousands of people. The ultimate tally of people rescued isn't known at this time, but I know that there are people all over the Gulf Coast who are extremely thankful that someone in a military uniform saved their lives.
And if these yahoos had their way, we wouldn't have a military, wouldn't have people under uniform who can do these kind of rescues and search an area of more than 90,000 square miles to clear debris, open up lines of communication, and bring in food, supplies, and water.
