Problem is, they've studiously avoided investigating the matter for more than a year. The bulk of the investigative journalism has been handled by the upstart New York Sun and journalist Claudia Rosett.
Whose fault is it that the Times wanders into the situation stating
a guilty plea by a procurement officer provide the most troubling evidence yet of criminality at the U.N.
If you bother to look at all the reporting by Rosett and the Sun, you'd know that criminal behavior is rampant at the UN, from their sexual harassment hijinx at the headquarters, to burying charges of rape and sexual misconduct among peacekeepers, and finally to the UNSCAM matter itself, which involves numerous high ranking officials, diplomats, and members of the Secretary General's staff - not to mention Kofi Annan and his son Kojo.
But, it is nice to know that the Times has something to say in a prominent location. It has been tough trying to follow UNSCAM when the story is relegated to page A30 in a squib, while the story of misappropriated billions goes untold.
