Three Strikes For NYC Newspapers

My problems with the New York Times have been recounted on both this blog and at Suite101.com. The Times has historically underreported major stories, including the Dafur genocide, UNSCAM, and all the good news that comes out of places like Iraq and Afghanistan.

The NY Daily News continues to deny its readers hundreds of millions of dollars in a botched scratch and win game contest that the paper ran last month.

And the last straw was that the New York Post completely botched the implementation of its username/password access to NY Post online stories. The entire system was overloaded today, and a person (ME) could never get past the initial login screens to complete the registration. Bugmenot.com was no help since usernames weren't recognized in any way, shape, or form.

In other words, lots of people were trying to register and the odds of getting through to actually read the stories was very slim.

That would ordinarily leave New York readers with the New York Sun, but they make most of their news stories available only via subscription, so their excellent coverage is limited to those who pay for that service.

I guess that is four strikes against NYC newspapers.

Oh well.

The New York Sun must be listening to you because they now give more free articles on the web and the paid articles give two big paragraphs to read.

Great Job.
